The Tournament

The 2026 World Cup is the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanding from 32. The group stage consists of 12 groups of 4 teams each, with the top two from each group and the best 8 third-placed teams advancing to a 32-team knockout round.

The tournament opens on June 11, 2026, and concludes with the final on July 19, 2026 at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, which has a capacity of 82,500.
